Synthetic resin wicker or rattan has been seen in outdoor patio furniture for quite some time as a sturdy but stylish alternative to plastic (cheapy look) and metal (will it withstand the weather?).
Now, “faux” wicker and rattan are making the cross-over to other housewares products, especially containers like baskets and laundry hampers. The trend seems to have first emerged in the European and Asian markets with the US market now playing catch-up.
Expect faux rattan and wicker to cost more than plastic but less than woven products made with natural grasses.
